Postmortem
After a few weeks of the launch, I have decided to make this entry as a way to conclude the project.
First of all, I've had a lot of fun making this game since Corpse Party has always been one of my favorite video game franchises, and being able to make a fangame with enough content was something I wanted to do for a long time.
The idea started when I was goofing around in RPG Maker early last year. In general, I was looking for ways to do visual novels on this program, so I used some backgrounds and characters from Corpse Party. I liked the result and that's when I came up with the idea of making a big project with it. Although I knew the risks of using a trademark, being able to honor this series was motivation enough.
For a few months I was getting the files to make the game, extracting some from the console versions and other files from the PC versions. In the middle of the year, during the holidays, I officially started development. Innocently, I estimated that it would take me a couple of months since, being a remake, the hard work had already been done and I just had to put the pieces together. Of course, in the end this was not the case, and a project that seemed to last a few months ended up extending until the end of the year.
Although it seemed somewhat simpler, the transcription of all the texts was a really difficult part, as well as placing the audio files for each dialogue (there were more than five thousand sound files!). However, I really enjoyed every part of the process and I finally published the demo that included the first chapter in November.
January 2nd was when I released the full game. For reasons of time constraints there were a couple of scenes that I couldn't include (plus I couldn't get portraits of certain characters). Also, certain scenes (especially the action ones) were slightly modified so that they could be more understandable in the visual novel format.
Regarding the launch, it really had a lot more downloads than I thought. The game was even among the most popular RPG Maker games on Itch.io for a few days. As expected, after launch there is a drop in page views and downloads, but that doesn't discourage me from creating future projects since I learned a lot thanks to this fangame and all the process involved.
Once again, thank you very much to all the people who downloaded the game, those who helped me with the bugs and also those who made gameplays. You have my eternal gratitude and I hope you can also enjoy my future projects.
Love you<3
